Nirvita Shakya is a Visual artist based in Kathmandu. While she is widely known for Performance art and Fabric art, she is equally proficient in Oil painting, Mixed media painting, Ceramic art, Sculpting, Installation art. She takes courage to explore her expression in mediums or forms, where she does not limit her concept to only one medium or materials. She creates subdued experience from surroundings and layered with poetic meaning, inviting interpretation and questions. She paid attention to the inner voice of humans and their dialogues and has carefully brought it into artform.
She graduated in Fine Arts from Kathmandu University School of Arts and Design. She has also worked with Junk, collaborating with Association of Mechanical Engineering students for junk Art Projects, Samayojan-18. She also taught creative activities held in Srijana College of Fine Arts and participated in Performance art program based on New Media Arts with Artist from Taiwan. She has also done collaborative project with Project Nadhe ‘White Noise’ through where she developed her performance art practices and vision evenly. She was featured artist in exhibition ‘Impression’ held by KU, where she did five days long Performance Art in 2022. She has done a Print making exhibition in 2019, ‘Traces’ in Park Gallery, Pulchowk. And Online group exhibition 2020 ‘Blessed Wonders’ with Tehra Organization.
She visited Artist residency in Bangladesh and has done Group exhibition on Kushtia Village of Bangladesh, ‘Crack Internation Art camp’ in 2022 and her Solo exhibition in Khulna Arshinagar in 2023. Recently she has done fabric installation for the set of Massacre Macbeth in Mandala Theater with Wataru Ram Shrestha led by Greg Mitchell.
She was approached for her performance art in Kalasha and has done Performance art ‘Jatra’ in 2023. She is one of the exhibiting artists in the Young Artist show held by Mcube gallery in 2023. She believes that art helps to articulate thoughts and imagination.
